ANATOMY RIOT
“Scores for a Recession,”
an evening of works by 10 LA choreographer/dancers, takes on the subject of a dance score: the set of agreements, conditions
and plans that create a framework for a dance. While some dance scores are open maps that leave considerable room for in-the-
moment choices, other scores are more prescriptive.

Each of these dances, by virtue of their efficiency, impermanence and disposability,
are implicated by the current state of the economy. Artists Rae Shao-Lan Blum, Doran George, Mira Kingsley, Arianne Hoffmann,
Carol McDowell, Victoria Marks, Stephanie Nugent, Taisha Paggett, Lionel Popkin and Christine Suarez will tangle with the
notion of a dance score as they tacitly (or explicitly) engage the current state of dance-making economics.
With low-tech,
do-it-yourself spirit in an easygoing setting, Anatomy Riot is an ongoing monthly dance/performance series created by Meg
Wolfe and currently guest curated by Carmela Hermann, Victoria Marks and Kristen Smiarowski. Anatomy Riot (AR), begun in
October 2005, has now presented over 300 artists in Los Angeles. AR encourages creative exploration and provides a platform
for local artists to share what’s new and what’s in the works; audience members are spared from the high ticket
prices and seat-squirming formality of a more traditional theater setting, while seeing a diversity of works by up-and-coming
and seasoned artists.
